High temperatures and pressures are commonly reached within gearboxes operating in industrial machinery. Many heavily-loaded gearboxes require extreme pressure (EP) gear lubricants in order to help extend both lubricant and machine life. Synthetic (EP) Gear Lubes are designed to withstand the most severe pressure situations and temperatures. Synthetic base fluids are the ideal base stocks to prevent wear and protect gearbox components - when combined with the EP additive and other additives, these lubricants are extremely resilient and long-lasting.
ISO VG 150 oil has a midpoint kinematic viscosity of 150 mm2/s, also referred to as centistokes (cSt). The midpoint is derived by taking the average of both the minimum and maximum kinematic viscosities. In the case of ISO VG 150 oil, those numbers are 135 cSt and 165 cSt, respectively. AGMA 4 lubricants have a minimum viscosity of 135 mPa.s and a maximum viscosity of 165 mPa.s. These numbers refer to the standard testing mechanisms used to determine how much resistance to flow (i.e. viscosity) these oils demonstrate.
