SAE 80w-90, API GL-5 Gear Oil

PSC's SAE 80w-90 API GL-5 Oil category represents lubricants that have a viscosity grade of SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) 80w-90. This grading system tells you the thickness of the oil and how it is affected by temperature. In this case, the "90" represents the thickness of the oil at operating temperature. The higher the number, the thicker the oil is between 2 mating surfaces. The "80w" tells you how well it maintains that thickness in colder temperatures. The lower the number, the better the oil flows at cold temperatures. The API GL (American Petroleum Institute Gear Lubricant) rating determines the amount of additives that are in the oil. API GL-5 Gear Lubricants have high levels of extreme pressure (EP) additives that are particularly suited to hypoid gears in automotive axles operating under moderate speeds and loads. Additionally, these lubricants may be used in certain manual transmissions and transaxles. They are not recommended for use in gearboxes / transmissions with yellow metal components.
