Rust and Oxidation (R&O) Oils are general purpose lubricants utilized throughout industrial plants. Synthetic Rust and Oxidation Oils are formulated with synthetic base oils and rust and oxidation additives for use in machinery operating under severe temperature conditions and extend the service intervals beyond the capabilities of mineral-based oils - these versatile oils are an appropriate choice for use in compressors, circulating systems, low pressure hydraulic systems, and moderately loaded gear boxes. Some of these lubricants may also be used to lubricate heavily-loaded plain or rolling-element bearings.
ISO VG 46 oil has a midpoint kinematic viscosity of 46 mm2/s, also referred to as centistokes (cSt). The midpoint is derived by taking the average of both the minimum and maximum kinematic viscosities. In the case of ISO VG 46 oil, those numbers are 50.6 cSt and 41.4 cSt, respectively. These numbers refer to the standard testing mechanisms used to determine how much resistance to flow (i.e. viscosity) these oils demonstrate.
