In industrial plants, various machine tools require non-specified lubrication that ISO VG 680 R&O bearing oils can provide. R&O stands for Rust and Oxidation - suitably, these oils are designed to prevent rust and oxidation formation and can withstand high temperatures in order to extend the serviceable life of machine components. Though these oils are often employed as a general purpose lubricant, they may be applicable for direct use in low pressure hydraulic systems, some gear boxes and circulating systems, and even air and gas compressors.
ISO VG 680 oil has a midpoint kinematic viscosity of 680 mm2/s, also referred to as centistokes (cSt). The midpoint is derived by taking the average of both the minimum and maximum kinematic viscosities of these oils, which is taken into account by the AGMA testing method. For AGMA 8 oils, these numbers are 612 cSt and 748 cSt, respectively.
