AeroShell Oil W 15W-50 Piston Engine Oil

AeroShell Oil W 15W-50 is a semisynthetic, multigrade ashless dispersant lubricating oil developed for certified four-stroke aircraft piston engines. It combines high-quality mineral oil with synthetic hydrocarbon base stocks and an advanced non-metallic additive system for year-round operation across a broad range of ambient temperatures.

AeroShell Oil W 15W-50 contains anti-wear technology equivalent to Lycoming LW 16702, along with additives that support rust protection, corrosion resistance, oxidation stability, anti-foaming performance, and engine cleanliness. The mineral portion of the formulation also helps disperse lead combustion by-products that may accumulate when leaded aviation fuel is used.

AeroShell Oil W 15W-50’s anti-corrosion additive helps protect low usage engines and engines in high humidity climates against corrosives. In addition, AeroShell Oil W 15W-50 provides high temperature oxidation protection for hot running engines. Furthermore, its synthetic base stock provides better cold temperature pumping and protection than single grade oils.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is AeroShell Oil W 15W-50 used for?

AeroShell Oil W 15W-50 is used in certified four-stroke aircraft piston engines, including fuel-injected, turbocharged, opposed, radial, air-cooled, and liquid-cooled applications where an SAE J1899 multigrade ashless dispersant oil is permitted.

Is AeroShell Oil W 15W-50 fully synthetic or semisynthetic?

AeroShell Oil W 15W-50 is semisynthetic. It combines high-quality mineral oil with synthetic hydrocarbon base stocks and an ashless dispersant additive system.

Why choose a multigrade oil over a single-grade aviation oil?

A multigrade oil provides lower-temperature flow for easier pumping and faster lubrication after startup while maintaining suitable viscosity after the engine reaches normal operating temperature. It can reduce the need to change between seasonal single-grade oils.

What temperature ranges does AeroShell Oil W 15W-50 operate in?

AeroShell Oil W 15W-50 is a multigrade oil designed for aircraft operated across a broad range of seasonal and ambient temperatures. Its 15W viscosity supports oil flow and pumping during colder starts, while the SAE 50 high-temperature grade maintains suitable viscosity after the engine reaches normal operating temperature. This can reduce the need to switch between separate winter and summer single-grade oils.

Is AeroShell Oil W 15W-50 compatible with other aviation piston-engine oils?

AeroShell Oil W 15W-50 is compatible with other approved aircraft piston-engine oils. Product changes and top-offs should still follow the applicable engine and maintenance requirements.

Can AeroShell Oil W 15W-50 be used during engine break-in?

AeroShell Oil W 15W-50 should not automatically be selected as a break-in oil. Break-in requirements vary by engine manufacturer, cylinder type, and overhaul facility.

What AeroShell Oil W 15W-50 package sizes does Petroleum Service Company offer?

Petroleum Service Company offers AeroShell Oil W 15W-50 in the following package configurations:

  • 6/1-quart case (SKU: 550050835)
  • 55-gallon drum (SKU: 550050888)

    AEROSHELL OIL W 15W-50 | 6/1 QUART CASE

I like the product and Petroleum's quick and efficient delivery! However, I don't like that it's only available in a more costly 6 quart case. I preferred the 12 quart case at a slightly less cost.

PSC is my new supplier for Aviation oil

Posted by Ed on Sep 27 2019

Ordering was, delivery fast, pricing was below all others when you considered the total costs. I historically was using another PA based oil supplier, their price was quite a bit higher than PSC.
