API SP | ILSAC GF-6 Engine Oil

API SP and ILSAC GF-6 are the newest engine oil specification released in 2020. API (American Petroleum Institute) and ILSAC (International Lubricant Specification Advisory Committee) dictate minimum oil performance standards for use in vehicles that lubricant manufactures should follow.

API "SP" and ILSAC "GF-6" were developed with the main aim of providing better fuel economy and robust engine protection. In addition these standards addressed low-speed pre-ignition (LSPI) issues in modern turbo charged engines, prevent wear and ensure proper operation.

This new standard is backward compatible with the previous generation standards. For example,  API SP is backward compatible with API SN, SL, SH... oils.
