Dibasic Acid Ester, or Diester, is present in certain synthetic base stocks and acts as a high performance lubricant in certain compressors. Diester-based lubricants have outstanding cleansing properties and resist the collection and build-up of debris and sludge. These lubricants are most often employed in heavy-duty reciprocating compressors. The synthetic formulation of Diester bases allows them to have excellent viscosity stability in the presence of pressures and temperatures that are excessive. Additionally, these lubricants are very good at decreasing friction.
ISO VG 100 oil has a midpoint kinematic viscosity of 100 mm2/s, also referred to as centistokes (cSt). The midpoint is derived by taking the average of both the minimum and maximum kinematic viscosities. In the case of ISO VG 100 oil, those numbers are 90.0 cSt and 110.0 cSt, respectively. These numbers refer to the standard testing mechanisms used to determine how much resistance to flow (i.e. viscosity) these oils demonstrate.
