R&O oils are commonly used in the lubrication of heavily-loaded bearings both plain and rolling-element - however, R&O oils are also used as general purpose lubricating fluids that can be used throughout manufacturing plants and in mobile applications. Though these oils are commonly used to lubricate bearings, they may be applicable as lubricants in circulation systems, geared turbines, certain compressor types, and lightly-loaded industrial machines. These lubricants may just be referred to as bearing oils, but have a much wider application range than this name suggests.
ISO VG 150 oil has a midpoint kinematic viscosity of 150 mm2/s, also referred to as centistokes (cSt). The midpoint is derived by taking the average of both the minimum and maximum kinematic viscosities. In the case of ISO VG 150 oil, those numbers are 135 cSt and 165 cSt, respectively. These numbers refer to the standard testing mechanisms used to determine how much resistance to flow (i.e. viscosity) these oils demonstrate.
