Rust & Oxidation (or R and O) oils are implemented throughout industrial plants as a general-purpose lubricant. These oils are composed of base oils that have been refined from premium petroleum stocks which contribute to these lubricants' film strengths and overall integrity. These oils are often used as air compressor lubricants and may also be implemented in geared turbines and gear drives - some of these oils may also find use in circulation systems and several other lightly loaded industrial applications. R&O oils are sometimes used to lubricate bearings in machine components.
ISO VG 46 Mineral-based R&O Oils have an average viscosity - sometimes referred to as midpoint kinematic viscosity - of 46 mm2/s, which is equivalent to 46 cSt (centistokes).
