Power Service Arctic Express Diesel Fuel Antigel

Concentrated Bulk Diesel Anti-Gel for Severe Cold-Weather Operation

Power Service Arctic Express Diesel Fuel Antigel is a concentrated winter diesel fuel additive designed for severe cold-weather operation. It modifies the size and shape of wax crystals that form as diesel fuel cools, helping keep those crystals small enough to remain suspended rather than plugging fuel filters and transfer lines.

Power Service states that Arctic Express can help prevent diesel fuel gelling at temperatures as low as -40°F and lower the Cold-Filter Plugging Point, or CFPP, of No. 2 diesel fuel by as much as 36°F. It also helps keep wax suspended during extended engine shutdowns and provides anti-icing and lubricity protection for diesel fuel systems.

Key Benefits

  • Concentrated diesel fuel anti-gel for severe winter conditions
  • Helps prevent fuel gelling at temperatures as low as -40°F
  • Can lower No. 2 diesel fuel CFPP by as much as 36°F
  • Helps prevent wax-related fuel-filter plugging
  • Helps keep diesel fuel liquid during extended engine shutdowns
  • Contains an anti-icing additive for fuel-filter protection
  • Provides lubricity protection for diesel fuel injection systems
  • Helps reduce wear on fuel pumps and injectors
  • Provides cold-weather performance comparable to a 50/50 blend of No. 2 and No. 1 diesel fuel
  • ULSD compliant with less than 15 ppm sulfur
  • Effective in conventional diesel, ULSD, and biodiesel blends containing up to B20

How Arctic Express Diesel Anti-Gel Works

As diesel fuel gets colder, naturally occurring paraffin wax begins to come out of solution and form crystals. If those crystals become large enough, they can restrict fuel flow and plug filters.

Arctic Express modifies the size and shape of these wax crystals, helping them remain smaller and stay suspended in the fuel. The formulation also helps prevent wax from settling to the bottom of the fuel tank during storage or extended shutdown periods.

Cold-Filter Plugging Point Protection

Cold-Filter Plugging Point, or CFPP, is an important measure of diesel fuel's ability to flow through a fuel filter at low temperatures.

Power Service states that Arctic Express can reduce the CFPP of No. 2 diesel fuel by as much as 36°F, helping reduce wax-related fuel-filter restriction during severe cold weather.

Actual cold-weather performance depends on the diesel fuel, its natural cloud point, biodiesel content, treatment timing, and operating conditions.

When Should Arctic Express Be Added?

Arctic Express should be added before the diesel fuel reaches its cloud point.

Once diesel fuel reaches its cloud point, wax crystals have already begun forming. Power Service therefore directs users to add Arctic Express while the fuel temperature is still above its cloud point.

For thorough mixing, Power Service recommends adding the anti-gel before filling the tank with diesel fuel.

Power Service Arctic Express Treatment Ratio

The standard concentrated Arctic Express formula uses a 1:1,500 treatment ratio, meaning one gallon treats up to 1,500 gallons of diesel fuel.

Package Size Treats Up To
2.5-Gallon Jug 3,750 Gallons
55-Gallon Drum 82,500 Gallons

Always follow the directions on the product container and verify that the treatment ratio matches the specific Arctic Express formulation being used.

Diesel Fuel Compatibility

Power Service Arctic Express is suitable for:

  • No. 2 diesel fuel
  • Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel (ULSD)
  • Biodiesel blends containing up to 20% biodiesel (B20)

Anti-Icing and Fuel-System Lubricity

Cold-weather diesel problems can also result from water freezing in fuel filters. Arctic Express contains an anti-icing additive designed to help protect against fuel-filter icing.

The formulation also provides lubricity performance intended to meet the requirements of diesel fuel injection systems and help reduce fuel-pump and injector wear.

Storage Information

Power Service directs users to store Arctic Express above 0°F. The technical bulletin lists the product's shelf life as indefinite when kept in a sealed container.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Power Service Arctic Express Diesel Fuel Antigel?
Arctic Express is a concentrated winter diesel fuel additive designed to improve diesel fuel operability during severe cold weather by modifying wax crystals, lowering CFPP, reducing fuel-filter plugging, and providing anti-icing and lubricity protection.

How cold does Power Service Arctic Express work?
Power Service states that Arctic Express can prevent fuel gelling at temperatures as low as -40°F. Actual performance can vary based on fuel composition, cloud point, treatment timing, and operating conditions.

How much can Arctic Express lower diesel fuel CFPP?
Power Service states that Arctic Express can lower the Cold-Filter Plugging Point of No. 2 diesel fuel by as much as 36°F.

How much Arctic Express anti-gel should I use?
The standard concentrated formula uses a 1:1,500 treatment ratio. One gallon treats up to 1,500 gallons of diesel fuel, one 2.5-gallon jug treats up to 3,750 gallons, and a 55-gallon drum treats up to 82,500 gallons.

When should I add diesel anti-gel to my fuel?
Arctic Express should be added while the diesel fuel is still above its cloud point, before wax crystals begin causing cold-weather fuel-flow problems. Power Service recommends adding it before filling the tank to improve mixing.

Can Arctic Express fix diesel fuel that is already gelled?
Arctic Express is designed as a preventive anti-gel and should be added above the fuel's cloud point. If fuel has already gelled or filters are already plugged, a winter emergency product designed to restore fuel flow is more appropriate.

Is Arctic Express suitable for ULSD?
Yes. Power Service identifies Arctic Express as ULSD compliant and lists a sulfur content below 15 ppm.

Can Arctic Express be used with biodiesel?
Yes. Power Service states that Arctic Express is effective in biodiesel blends containing up to 20% biodiesel, or B20.

Does Arctic Express protect against fuel-filter icing?
Yes. The formulation contains an anti-icing additive designed to help protect against fuel-filter icing caused by cold-weather conditions.

Does Arctic Express provide diesel fuel lubricity?
Yes. Power Service states that Arctic Express meets lubricity requirements for diesel fuel injection systems and helps reduce pump and injector wear.

Is Arctic Express the same as Power Service Diesel Fuel Supplement +Cetane Boost?
No. Both products provide winter anti-gel protection, but Arctic Express is a highly concentrated product intended primarily for large-volume fuel treatment and severe winter operability. Diesel Fuel Supplement +Cetane Boost also includes cetane-boosting benefits and is offered in smaller consumer and fleet package sizes.

How should Power Service Arctic Express be stored?
Power Service directs users to store Arctic Express above 0°F. The technical bulletin lists indefinite shelf life when the product remains in a sealed container.
