Hydraulic Oils that are referred to as "food-grade" are intended for use as H1 lubricants (where incidental food contact may occur) and H2 lubricants (no chance of incidental food contact) according to NSF International. These oils generally represent the same performance characteristics as the common hydraulic oil, however, these oils are tested for their safety in the case of food contact, therefore, they are ideal for applications in the food and beverage industry. Many of these options are Kosher, Pareve, and Halal certified.
Food grade hydraulic oil comes in the ISO VG 32 variety - these oils have a midpoint kinematic viscosity of 32 mm2/s (this number may be also measured in centistokes, or cSt).
