Tectyl 517 Black Calcium Sulfonate Corrosion Inhibiting Compound Meeting Mil Spec A-A-59295 Type I and II

Tectyl 517 is a premium corrosion inhibitor compound approved under military specifications MIL-C-0083933A and under MIL-C-62218A, Types I and II, A-A-59295, QPL Reference Numbers AR-18-85 and 2-7515, respectively.

Tectyl 517 is a solvent base gelled calcium sulfonate corrosion preventive compound cutback with mineral spirits. When applied as an undercoating or rustproofing compound, Tectyl 517 provides exceptional protection for transportation equipment.

In its uncured state, this thixotropic coating is gel-like and becomes more fluid with mixing and agitation allowing it to flow.
After drying, the wax-like film is black and semi-firm or more specifically, firmer than Vaseline but not hard like a candle.

Product Uses

  • Black Abrasive Resistant Coating and rustproofing compound for the quality protection of transportation equipment like truck beverage bodies, military transportation equipment, and more.
  • Superb corrosion preventative for new automobiles, trucks, and trailers.
  • Effective protection of used transportation equipment with less than perfect substrates.
  • Can be applied to battery terminals for insulating processes.

Product Performance:

  • Firm wax-like film that will repel water, self-heal, and remain flexible at low temperatures.
  • When applied at the recommended wet film thickness of 12-14 mils over the surface profile, it will deposit the recommended dry film thickness of 5-6 mils.
  • Dry to touch in 2-4 hours, weather resistant after 4 hours, and fully cured after 24 hours.
  • Covers 144 square feet per gallon when applied at the recommended film thickness.
  • A dielectric strength of 800 volts per mil of coating allows application between dissimilar metals preventing galvanic corrosion between contacting metals.
  • Can provide up to 3 years of protection on both wood and metal substrates at the recommended film thickness.

Application Equipment Recommendations:

  • Pumps with ratios of 15:1 or greater are advised for efficient use of container content.
  • Tungsten Carbide Nozzles Tip in the spray gun is recommended. (.017" to .025" tip orifice size)
  • High Pressure Fluid Hose of no less than 3/8 in. diameters is suggested for less than 50 ft. of material hose.
  • Low Ratio pumps (15-30:1): operate through 100 ft. of 1/2 in & 50 ft. of 3/8 in. hose for a max of 150 ft.
  • High Ratio pumps(>30:1): operate through 200 ft. of 1/2 in & 50 ft. of 3/8 in. hose for a max of 250 ft.
