Tectyl 8140 Black Solvent Base, Thixotropic Asphalt Corrosion Preventive Undercoating for Transportation Equipment

Tectyl 8140 is a solvent base, thixotropic, asphalt corrosion compound suitable for the complete undercoating of ferrous (iron-containing) and non-ferrous (no-iron) transportation equipment, automobiles, and trailer or chassis frames.
This high-quality mixture of asphalt, solvents, and additional additives delivers a durable protective film that assists in preventing rust by essentially sealing out harmful contaminants like moisture and dirt.

Tectyl 8140 is a thixotropic compound, meaning its uncured state has a gel-like consistency that becomes more fluid or ketchup-like in texture with continued mixing and agitation.
This key characteristic allows for significantly simplified application, spreading, and improved flow during product handling.

This premium solvent base, asphalt corrosion compound undercoating will ultimately cure to form a black, firm, and resilient protective film that is resistant to abrasion, prevents corrosion, and works as an effective sound deadener.
Tectyl 8140 works exceptionally to provide maximized corrosion protection for vehicle undercarriages and can extend the overall life of your coated metal surfaces.

Product Uses

• Black, Solvent Base, Thixotropic, Asphalt Corrosion Compound undercoating designed for the complete undercoating of ferrous (iron-containing) and non-ferrous (no-iron) metals, transportation equipment, automobiles, and trailer or chassis frames.
• Firm and resilient black protective film undercoating that provides enhanced corrosion protection, reliable abrasion resistance, and extremely effective sound deadening.
• Used primarily to coat the interior and bottom of steel commercial and industrial trash and roll off containers.

Product Performance:

• When applied at the recommended wet film thickness of 28-38 mils over the surface profile, it will deposit the recommended dry film thickness (DFT) of 15-20 mils.
• Dry to touch in 2-4 hours and fully cured in 16-24 hours.
• Covers up to 79 square feet per gallon when applied at the recommended film thickness.
• Can provide up to 2 years of outdoor protection and 5 years of indoor protection on metal substrates at the recommended dry film thickness.

Application Equipment Recommendations: 

• Pumps with ratios of 15:1 or greater are advised for efficient use of container content.
• Tungsten Carbide Nozzles Tip in the spray gun is recommended. (.021" to .025" tip orifice size)
• High Pressure Fluid Hose of no less than 3/8 in. diameters is suggested for less than 50 ft. of material hose.
• Low Ratio pumps (15-30:1): operate through 100 ft. of 1/2 in & 50 ft. of 3/8 in. hose for a max of 150 ft.
• High Ratio pumps(>30:1): operate through 200 ft. of 1/2 in & 50 ft. of 3/8 in. hose for a max of 250 ft.
