Tectyl 891D Class I Black Cold-Application Asphaltic Corrosion Preventive Compound QPL Approved MIL-PRF-16173E Grade 1, Class I
Tectyl 891D Class I is a Qualified Product Listed (QPL) for Govt. Designation MIL-PRF-16173E; Class I, Grade 1 Certified Source, formulated to also fulfill the requirements of MIL-P-116J, Type P-1 Specifications. Contrary to Class II, Class I indicates this product is higher in Volatile Organic Content/Compounds (VOC), exceeding 2.8 lbs. per gallon (340 grams/liter).
Tectyl 891D Class I is a black, solvent-based, asphaltic corrosion preventive compound cutback with mineral spirits designed specifically for long-term covered/uncovered and indoor/outdoor preservation. Protecting metallic surfaces exposed to outdoor weather conditions for extended periods during domestic and international shipments that call for a dry-to-touch film.
Tectyl 891D Class I will dry to a solid black, hard wax protective film that effectively resists moisture, salt, and other corrosive elements. This long-lasting and versatile corrosion inhibiting compound is an excellent cost-effective option for preventing corrosion on your metallic surfaces, thereby extending the lifespan of a wide range of equipment and machinery.
Black Asphaltic Corrosion Preventive Compound formulated for exceptional general-purpose preservation and long-term protection of covered/uncovered, indoor/outdoor metals exposed to weather conditions like humidity or rainfall for extended periods during domestic and overseas shipping.
Can be used as a “Float Coat” by shipyards for difficult or unsafe rust inhibitor application to access voids, tanks, ballast areas, and rudders.
Used for protecting the interior of ship rudders on Naval vessels and large commercial ships using the fill and drain method.
Class I Volatile Organic Content/Compounds (VOC) exceeds 2.8 lbs. per gallon (340 grams/liter).
Removal is possible with mineral spirits (or another similar petrolatum solvent), hot alkaline wash, or low-pressure steam.
When applied at the recommended wet film thickness (WFT) of 5-6 mils over the surface profile, it will deposit the recommended dry film thickness (DFT) of 2.5-3 mils.
Dry to touch and weather-resistant in 2 hours, and fully cured in 24 hours.
Covers 340 square ft. per gallon when applied at the recommended film thickness.
Can provide up to 2 years of outdoor protection and 5 years of indoor or undercover protection on metal substrates at the recommended dry film thickness.
Application Equipment Recommendations:
Pumps with ratios of 15:1 or greater are advised for efficient use of container content.
Tungsten Carbide Nozzles Tip in the spray gun is recommended. (.015" to .021" tip orifice size)
High Pressure Fluid Hose of no less than 3/8 in. diameters is suggested for less than 50 ft. of material hose.
